Glider welcomes Common Data Environment expert David Townsend
Trusted Common Data Environment (CDE) expert David Townsend joins the rapidly growing consultancy team at Glider.
David fits perfectly into our highly collaborative and supportive consultancy team, who are at the forefront of delivering innovative digital projects to the AEC industry.

A CDE is a single source of truth – or source of information – used to collect, manage and disseminate documentation, graphical and non-graphical data for the whole project team. At Glider we have nailed this process through the development of our CDE software platform, gliderbim®.
David brings a wealth of experience in this area to Glider, with an in-depth understanding of the professional construction of a project and a pragmatic approach that will guarantee optimal results for our clients. From the offset, in his new role as Senior CDE Implementation Consultant, David will be leading the design, implementation and use of gliderbim® for our clients, and will be responsible for understanding and developing client data requirements.
With nine years’ experience in delivering and understanding BIM and the use of digital construction methodologies, David has implemented CDE solutions for clients around the world in his past roles with Viewpoint and G4S. Speaking about his new position at Glider, David said: “It is evident that Glider is the type of business that puts data at the forefront of its CDE offering and this is clearly generating enormous benefits for our customers. I’m looking forward to supporting our customers in this way and achieving effective CDE implementation results. I believe without a doubt, I’ve joined a great team.”
Glider Managing Director, Nick Hutchinson added: “Increasingly, many organisations in the AEC industry – as well as in the related software space – are recognising how a well-managed CDE can enable more effective collaboration across the project team. We see it as our role at Glider to educate the industry on the benefits of a well-coordinated CDE, and it is professionals like David who are perfectly positioned to drive the sea-change of digital adoption for this way of working. We welcome David as an excellent addition to our team.”

Glider supports the Women in BIM mentor scheme
As a sponsor and long-time supporter of Women in BIM, we are proud to support the mentor scheme.
We continue to be impressed by the work Women in BIM does to support the global digital built environment. The scheme is designed to give women and people of minority genders in our industry the opportunity to talk about their work and share their views and experiences

Women in BIM Mentor Scheme
Katya Veleva, part of the core Women in BIM team and Mentor Scheme lead, gave us the scoop on what’s been happening, and what’s to come.
“The Women in BIM Mentoring Scheme comes from our core values. We strive to elevate the image of women and people of minority genders in our industry. We try to source opportunity for exposure – we want our members on (virtual) stages, talking about their work and sharing their views and experiences.
“One of the ways to do that is by creating spaces for more women in BIM to connect via our networking events. At the end of 2019, we decided to take things a step further – we really wanted to foster stable and productive connections for our members within the industry. Therefore, we began the process of creating a mentoring scheme.
“After an incredibly successful first year, we have opened the programme once again to a global pool of applicants from the full spectrum of our industry.
“When the applications have all come in, we then go through a rigorous matching process to find the best suited mentoring couples. We invite those couples to connect and agree to a one-to-one mentoring relationship and provide them with various materials to support their development.
“We always ask our Mentors/Mentee to keep us up to date on their meetings, and we organise regular mentor check-ins where we keep an eye on what works and where the participants need more help.
“Due to the overwhelming number of applicants last year, we organised a series of group mentoring events as well. We were incredibly thrilled with how well they were received, and we will be making them part of our programming for this year as well.”
UPDATE: Applications for the Women in BIM Mentor Scheme have now closed.
Katya has also produced some excellent videos to help those considering taking part gain a little more detail. Watch here for Mentors and Mentee videos.

2020 – The year in review
2020 was a strange year to say the least, but for Glider it was also been full of opportunity.
We made some significant changes, our team expanded and grew. We also won some pretty fantastic awards, not to mention having the honour of working with and continuing to support many outstanding businesses.
Take a look at our reflection of 2020 – the year of change!

As we close the chapter on our fourth year in business, we are grateful that we are in good shape and ready to take on 2021.
Throughout the year Glider has secured significant contracts with several UK Government departments and publicly funded organisations as part of the G-Cloud Framework, blue chip asset management funds, one of the world’s leading technology companies and many of the UK’s largest Tier 1 contractors.
- Product Development
Glider’s flagship product, gliderbim®, is an end-to-end asset information management platform connecting projects and teams with real-time data from design through to operation – minimising risk and generating profitable outcomes. It is these very aspects which have led to the success of the product. Glider also couples these operational benefits by providing assurances to our clients that their data is secure. We best demonstrate this with our re-accreditation of ISO 27001 – the leading Information Security standard. We’re proud of this. Security is a critical part of a Common Data Environment.
- New Roles
At Glider we have some of the AEC industry’s most talented, consultants, managers, developers and thought leaders, shaping the future of the digital built environment. And this year we strengthened our team with the addition of a new Business Operations Manager, a new Head of Sales and several Digital Delivery Managers and Software Engineers. These key roles have been instrumental in our growth and support for all stakeholders.
- Championing BIM
Another pretty cool fact about this year is that our equally talented Head of Product, John Adams continued to support the Centre for Digital Built Britain and UK BIM Alliance in the further development and wider industry understanding of the international BIM standard ISO 19650.
- Prioritising Health & Wellbeing
In everything we do, we do it with a social conscience. We have taken giant steps to not only be a responsible business, but to ensure the safe keeping and wellbeing of our magnificent team. Which is one of the reasons why we have implemented a new set of internal policies that support our people. We have also introduced a new Continuous Professional Development programme, so that our people continue to lead as experts in the AEC industry.
- A Brighter Future
Looking ahead to 2021, we will be celebrating our fifth anniversary. We plan to continue our expansion of the team and entry to new markets. We’re also instrumental in introducing new technology to the industry to safeguard its future. It has been amazing to reflect on everything we’ve been able to do this year, especially considering the unpredictable circumstances we have all been in since March. But now it is time to look forward and we can see the future is bright for Glider.

Glider successfully awarded a place among Government’s G-Cloud 12 Digital Marketplace
Glider has been awarded a place on the UK Government’s procurement scheme, G-Cloud 12.
G-Cloud 12 is a digital marketplace which provides UK Government Departments, Local Councils, NHS Trusts, Housing Associations and other public sector bodies with an extensive portfolio of cloud-based software and support services from specially selected and approved suppliers.

A 'best in class', data-driven Common Data Environment (CDE)
Now available via G-Cloud 12 is our flagship product, gliderbim® – a ‘best in class’, data-driven Common Data Environment (CDE) that helps to ensure the design, construction and operation of built assets are managed in an efficient and holistic way. This end-to-end asset information management platform connects projects and teams with real-time data from design through to operation – minimising risk and saving costs.
Through G-Cloud 12, public sector bodies will be able to access the full gliderbim® functionality, enabling them to:

A huge step foward
Our innovative services and cloud-based platform are a huge step forward for government bodies in implementing BIM in line with ISO 19650 standards, as well as helping them to save time and money not just during the construction phase – but throughout an asset’s lifecycle.
With a more comprehensive CDE that offers information management capabilities, the operation and maintenance of government and public owned buildings will become more cost-effective and efficient providing environmental, social and economic benefits.
Bespoke support and training
To support each deployment of the gliderbim® platform, our in-house industry experts create a bespoke implementation plan to ensure all aspects of the implementation process are meticulously planned, documented and tested to ensure the CDE system is configured correctly, is stable, secure and performs optimally at all times. A bespoke training programme will then be developed and delivered to the different users of the platform.
As well as training users in the software itself, information management, BIM management and BIM coordination services can also be provided to support individual projects or enterprise-wide requirements.
Achieve more with Glider
With this additional support, we can ensure teams are reducing deployment times, as well as improving the users’ understanding of the platform. By making sure the platform is configured correctly for a given project helps to deliver the best possible outcomes for the building owner, occupier or employer.
The combination of a great tool – and the ability to master it – all via the government’s G-Cloud 12 framework, is now helping to support those responsible for some of Britain’s most important buildings. This enables individual building operational teams to harness the vast volume of data within their projects in the most efficient way possible, offering a new digital approach to design, construction, operation and maintenance.
The advanced technology within gliderbim® is ISO 27001 compliant and meets all 14 CDE security principles published by the CPNI, providing assurance that your data is in safe and secure hands.
