Glider wins CABE digital transformation award 2022

The awards, hosted by Iranian-born British comedian and author Shappi Khorsandi, were announced during the prestigious gala dinner at the Embedding Sustainability Conference on 13 October 2022 in Newport.

The CABE Built Environment awards are a benchmark of industry standards, giving building engineers the recognition for excellence and ingenuity that they deserve. Following its demonstration of an exceptional usage of digital technologies on the HMP Five Wells construction project, Glider has been awarded this year’s CABE Digital Transformation Award, which reflects the increasing pace of change in use of digital technologies within construction.

Glider was recognised at the awards for the implementation of its Common Data Environment (CDE) platform, gliderbim®, on the HMP Five Wells project. On this project, Glider supported the client Kier, delivering to the Ministry of Justice’s (MoJ) requirements. This venture involved one of the largest data sets Glider has worked on to date.

Lord John Lytton, Chair of the CABE Awards panel, commented “The prison’s unique design has extensive asset information requirements, and by adapting cutting edge digital technologies, the project is able to manage all of the data points, improving the safety and efficiency of the building. The use of gliderbim® for the extremely complex HMP Five Wells project demonstrates just what can be achieved when you adopt BIM and digital twins”.

HMP Five Wells is an adult male Category C resettlement prison designed to enhance rehabilitation. Built almost entirely from standardised components and project managed by Mace, the 60,000m2 facility is now the biggest prison in England. On this substantial project, the use of gliderbim® enabled high quality and complete handover information for HMP Five Wells. Glider’s information management team were responsible for successfully overseeing the information capture across 79 work packages, from 49 trade contractors, and verifying in excess of 2.5 million data points from 380,000 COBie records.

Processing the level of data provided on the project would not have been possible without the unique data management capabilities of gliderbim® and Glider’s skilled information managers and consultants.

Nick Hutchinson, Managing Director of Glider commented, “We are immensely proud to have won the CABE Digital Transformation Award. This award represents the exceptional impact and innovation that gliderbim® and our consultancy services bring to the industry; of which HMP Five Wells is just one example. A huge congratulations to the whole Glider and Kier team for their hard work on this project.”
