Assisting Unite Students in meeting new Building Safety regulations

Unite Students initially engaged us to review their asset information management approach across their substantial £5 billion asset portfolio, and as a priority support their compliance with the Building Safety Act. The primary objective was to establish a consolidated and reliable source of related Building Safety information covering all of their properties to evidence Building Safety Case and related information whilst operating and maintaining their national estate. During the design phase of the project, recommendations were also made regarding their information management approach and decisions made on standards adoption for their documents, and importantly the management, assurance and storage of their built asset data. .
This comprehensive asset dataset serves as the foundation for various operational streams, including reactive and planned preventative maintenance and whole life cost decisions.
Given the large-scale accommodation services provided to students, the swift turnaround time for property marketability and refurbishment during the summer months necessitates consistently updated and precise data. Maintaining this data integrity throughout a student’s tenure is crucial, not least from a building and fire safety perspective.
Once all this data is in place, this robust data infrastructure will empower Unite Students to leverage smart building technologies, optimising space utilisation, energy efficiency and cleaning schedules. It will significantly bolster decision-making processes concerning asset sales and disposals.
gliderbim® will provide Unite Students with a single source of information for their asset portfolio. The Common Data Environment (CDE) has been configured to hold information to elevate all space and asset information for COBie. It will be the data backbone for all properties. By collecting, connecting and validating information it will also provide the golden thread of information. Ultimately, this initiative ensures that Unite Students can offer the safest student accommodation in the country. It is constructed and maintained to the highest standards.
