Case Study:
Meadowhall

Located in Sheffield, Yorkshire, Meadowhall is one of the UK’s top five shopping centres. With 24 million annual visitors, it offers 1.5 million sq ft of retail and leisure space with around 280 occupiers including Marks & Spencer, Apple, Zara, Lego, Hugo Boss and Tag Heuer. The centre also features an 11-screen Vue cinema, a 1,200-seat dining quarter, a range of activity spaces, 12,000 free parking spaces and its own public transport interchange.

A £60 million refurbishment marked Meadowhall’s 25th anniversary, creating distinct districts and prompting nearly 80 retailers to invest £46 million in redesigning and refitting stores. The project also enabled sustainability improvements, with a 33% reduction in energy intensity since 2019, cutting emissions by more than 1,300 tonnes. Meadowhall also supports its community, with over 1,700 people benefiting from its programmes.

Key requirements

With decades of operation and extensive historical information, Meadowhall needed a smarter way to manage data. Previously, documents were stored on a dedicated internal network, making access and control challenging.

Solution

By adopting the Glider handover platform, delivered by Glider, Meadowhall centralised all information in one place. This improved operations, strengthened information security and gave teams greater control over user access.

There was also a 33% reduction in energy intensity at Meadowhall, cutting carbon emissions by more than 1,300 tonnes and helping customers to save on their energy bills.

Benefits

The platform streamlined access to key information and helped organise ongoing projects, while providing an overview of programmes of work. Information was categorised in a clear, visually engaging way, making it easier for teams to locate what they needed quickly.

Results

Intuitive and easy to use, the Glider handover platform enabled Meadowhall teams to find information at speed, even when searching decades of historical records. The platform provided a secure, well-categorised and accessible system, with powerful search functions and dashboards that offered greater visibility.

By improving access to vital information, it reduced time, cost and error while supporting the ongoing operation of one of the UK’s premier shopping destinations.
