Pioneering the efficient transfer of vital information and data between construction and operation
Stratford Waterfront is part of London’s East Bank. It’s a £1.1 billion development in the heart of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Background
Glider was appointed by the main contractor Mace, to manage the digital handover of documentation, 3D models and asset data to the client, London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC).
The Challenge
Traditionally, information that is delivered at the end of construction is an afterthought. Once delivered into the hands of the owner or tenant, it’s often under utilised, unmanaged and fast becomes out of date and ambiguous.
This causes delays in fit-out, rework, unnecessary surveys and sub-optimal operation and maintenance in the operation phase.
The Solution
To overcome this, Glider utilised gliderbim® to establish the information requirements of LLDC into a digital plan of work. This plan of work was then used to automate the verification of data within tens of thousands of data points within IFC and COBie files and documents ensuring that LLDC obtains quality and consistent information at the point of handover.
LLDC recommended that each of the tenants of the buildings also used gliderbim® as a way to maintain the valuable Asset Information Model (AIM). As the landlord, they would always have an accurate Information Model of their asset.
Tenants include the Victoria & Albert Museum, the University of the Arts; London College of Fashion and Sadlers Wells. All of these reputable organisations agreed that adopting Glider’s platform and services to preserve and utilise their Asset Information Models in gliderbim® was a worthwhile investment.
The Project Information Model (PIM) became the Asset Information Model (AIM). The information from construction was transferred to the tenants own gliderbim® workspace. It was then used by their fit-out contractors and supply chain and enable the effective operation of the asset.
The Outcome
Since working with Glider, this approach has set a new standard in the handling of valuable asset data and saved countless hours that are often involved in poor information management and transfer of information from one asset lifecycle to another. With an up-to-date AIM, and a platform to manage it, the tenants and owners of Stratford Waterfront are in a better position to maintain compliance, safety and manage better spaces for their occupants. And at a reduced cost.
Everyone benefits and is brought together by a golden thread of information that spans the entire lifecycle of the asset.
