Glider shortlisted for New Civil Engineer TechFest Awards 2022
Glider is delighted to announce it has been shortlisted for the New Civil Engineer TechFest Awards 2022 for its exceptional contributions to the HMP Five Wells project.

Glider has been shortlisted for the ‘Best Use of Technology: Whole Life Performance’ award due to its remarkable work on the HMP Five Wells project.
The New Civil Engineer TechFest awards are designed to shine the spotlight on organisations applying cutting-edge technology innovations in building design and construction.
The ‘Best Use of Technology: Whole Life Performance’ category recognises teams using innovative technologies to improve the performance of assets across their entire lifecycle. Building Information Management (BIM) is one of the technologies transforming construction, and Glider is implementing BIM to create a more efficient industry through its pioneering approach. As a shortlisted candidate, Glider has successfully proven its software and team’s positive impact on the operational use of HMP Five Wells.
On this project, Glider applied its Common Data Environment (CDE) platform gliderbim® to achieve outstanding data capture results. Glider supported its client, Kier, delivering to the Ministry of Justice’s (MoJ) requirements. This was a challenging project involving one of the largest data sets Glider has worked on to date. Glider’s use of gliderbim® on this project is a considerable advance on the conventional approach, and the software provider even hopes that it can be deployed at scale.
HMP Five Wells is an adult male Category C resettlement prison designed to enhance rehabilitation. Built almost entirely from standardised components and project managed by Mace, the 60,000m2 facility is now the biggest prison in England. On this substantial scheme, the use of gliderbim® enabled high quality and complete handover information for HMP Five Wells. gliderbim® was responsible for the successful information capture across 79 work packages, from 49 trade contractors, and verifying in excess of 2.5 million data points from 380,000 COBie records.
Handling the project’s high level of data would not have been possible without gliderbim®’s unique data-processing capabilities, and the skills of Glider’s information management specialists.
James Franklin, Head of BIM at Kier, was responsible for leading this complex project and team. James commented: “Kier and Glider worked collaboratively as one team to deliver possibly the most complex BIM project to date at HMP Five Wells, achieving 100% compliance and assisting the MoJ to bridge the gap between design and construction, and operations.”
Nick Hutchinson, Managing Director of Glider commented, “We are delighted to have been shortlisted for the ‘Best Use of Technology: Whole Life Performance’ award. This validates the efforts of the whole team, and really is a testament to gliderbim®’s ability to improve performance across the whole asset lifecycle. We are immensely proud to be considered as one of the most innovative organisations in the industry.”
Taking place on 24th November 2022, the New Civil Engineer TechFest is an opportunity to network with likeminded industry peers, gain insight into innovations within the sector, and celebrate the most innovative teams. After the conference, an evening awards ceremony will follow a gala dinner.
